Moving with Pets
To make the move less stressful for your furry family members, planning ahead is crucial. Here are some tips to help ease the transition:
Before the Move
- Contact state and local agencies for their pet laws. Get a local license if needed and make sure your pet is up to date on her shots.
- Request your pet's health records from his vet.
- Make sure your pets id tags are up to date with a number where you can be reached after your move.
- Get a recent photo of your pet just in case he is lost.
- Find a new vet by asking for a referral from your old vet or by visiting localvet.com.
- Invest in a good, sturdy pet carrier for your dog or cat. Take the time to get your pet comfortable with the new carrier as soon as possible.
- Get your pet used to the car by taking short trips and working up to longer ones.

During the Move
- Don't feed your pet within two hours of leaving to avoid accidents.
- Make frequent stops to water and exercise your pet.
