Buying a Home

Am I Ready To Buy?

Are you ready to buy a new home? There are many factors to consider before taking the first step. Take some time to sit down with your family before you start looking and discuss the following topics:

• How long will we be there? - On average it takes 3-5 years for your home to appreciate enough to cover buying and selling expenses. If you are approaching a life change that my require a move such as graduating from college, having a baby, or facing job loss keep that in mind as you make your decision.
• Are my finances in order? - Now is the time to get on a budget, pay down credit cards, and make sure you have a clear picture of your finances. Put a stop to bad habits like paying bills late and maxing out your credit cards. If you are facing any major purchases you may want to put them on hold until after you purchase your home.
• Am I ready for the responsibility? - Owning a home takes an investment of both time and money. You should expect to spend a great deal of time performing basic home maintenance and repair tasks as well as landscaping and yard upkeep. You should also expect to spend money above your mortgage payment performing these tasks.
• Why do I want to buy? - This is perhaps the most important question. Make sure you want to own your home and are not just keeping up with the Joneses.
